Studio Physics: A Photographic Exploration into the Nature of Time, Light, Space and Gravity
November 29, 2013- January 5, 2014

Evening Occasion – Friday, December 6, 6-8pm

wall space gallery is pleased to present this exhibition of photographs by the nationally recognized photographer and physicist, John Chervinsky. The exceptionally clever and stimulating images in his recent Studio Physics series explore changes in light, space, and gravity over a period of weeks. In Chervinsky’s inventive and provocative process, he sends a cropped still life photograph to China to be turned into a custom oil painting, which he then inserts back into his decaying studio still life to rephotograph. The results playfully induce double-takes and encourage the viewer to consider the grand and small scales of changes in the physical world. These digital color photographs build on Chervinsky’s previous black and white series, An Experiment in Perspective. Against a sumptuously printed blackboard with chalk diagrams, arrows, and formulae, Chervinsky used objects to apply the laws of nature to more ambiguous realms of faith and emotion. Boldly working at the intersection of professional science and art, John Chervinsky’s work culminates in an elegant and intelligent look at perception.
