Masquerade @ The New Orleans Photo Alliance
Masquerade
February 1 – March 30, 2014
Around the world, costumes and masks are used for a variety of reasons, apparent in the international collection of images that were chosen for the show. “The work in Masquerade reflects a wide array of responses to the idea of new identities, from Mardi Gras confections, to theatrical characters, to Halloween and fright night ghosts and monsters,” says juror Aline Smithson. “The selected photographers bring a wonderful spectrum of interpretations to the exhibition, each working hard to balance a fine art sensibility and acknowledge the magical transformation of a mask for amusement, protection, or disguise.”
Masquerade includes photographs by: Michelle Bates, Thom Bennett, David Carol, Stacy Gardner, George Long, Suzanne Révy,Euphus Ruth among others.
