Hugh attended Glasgow College of Printing and around 1972 he bought his first Creative Camera magazine and was influenced by images by Lee Friedlander and Robert Frank. It inspired him to photograph the streets of Glasgow, which are captured in this body of work from the period 1974-1978, a unique period in Glasgow’s social and architectural history.

Lithuania has a strong humanistic genre within photography, no more so in the Black and White tradition of the ‘decisive moment’ of street photography. These three image-makers are all important photographers spanning 3 generations all of whom are members of the Lithuanian Union of Art Photographers. Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania – its ambience, its light and space, and the poetry of the everyday are captured in this stunning series of photographs.

This outing of Harry’s work focuses on some of the Scottish acts of the post-punk era when Glasgow was something of an epicenter of independent music, augmented with images of British and US luminaries of the period (Julian Cope pictured to the right). The exhibition coincides with the West End Festival. The book ‘What Presence! – The Rock Photography of Harry Papadopoulos‘ published last year by Polygon is available in the library.
