The Miami Project: Observations of a 21st Century Culture
Carson’s current project seeks to investigate and capture Miami’s culture through documentary photographs of daily life. His work is a snapshot of the city through images of its people, artifacts and environment. He carries a small portable camera with him at all times and photographs all possible daily encounters. It is his belief that the use of readily accessible technology is a practical and essential conceptual component in his project. The images are not meant to report truth or facts about the individuals depicted but instead create narratives of particular moments of Miami’s cultural history. Carson is a former assistant to famed photographer Irving Penn and is a graduate of the University of Miami with a Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Digital Imaging. He currently lives and works in Miami as a fine art documentary photographer and university professor.
