Irene Greenberg: Abstracts

“Walls and other surfaces can tell a story. They reflect the passing of time and the passing of people. They change and dissolve depending on their age and how they are formed and maintained. Sometimes, I imagine other images in the abstract markings that age and wear have left behind.”

George Greenstein: Ice & Sky: Greenland

“Greenland is one of the most inhospitable places on earth. Half the size of the USA, its population is that of a small village. In summer the sun never sets: in winter it never rises. I experienced there a terrain gigantic, solemn and inhospitable, and possessed of a stern implacable beauty. Music accompanying the exhibit reflects this sense.”

Jay Matusow: Layers

“In my best photographs, I’ve identified something that visually excites me and found a way to reproduce that emotion in someone else. With this end in mind, I feel no obligation to record literal interpretations of what I see if another approach feels more effective. InLayers, I’ve used stacking and masking techniques to combine portions of different images to elicit a sense of how the best of the visual world feels to me.”

Ruth Raskin: Road Trip: New Mexico

“Two weeks. More than 1,500 miles. Thirteen rolls of black-and-white film. These silver gelatin prints document the landscapes, cityscapes, sunsets, aliens and vehicles I encountered during a classic American endeavor: the road trip.”

Sonia Toledo: Flora

“This work is inspired by a visit to Georgia O’Keeffe’s museum in Santa Fe in 2013. The photographs echo one of her famous quotes: “Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small. We haven’t time, and to see takes time — like to have a friend takes time.”
