unnamedInbal Abergil: N O K – Next Of Kin
February 27 – March 26, 2016

In her exhibition N O K – Next Of Kin, Abergil examines the ways in which American families memorialize relatives killed in military conflict. Abergil traveled throughout the U.S. to meet with relatives of fallen soldiers and military personnel and to document their methods of coping with loss through the preservation of personal effects. In conjunction with the exhibition, a new publication with interviews between the families and the artist is available at the gallery.

    Outstanding, powerful book.

The photographs and remembrances of our Gold Star families are poignant reminders of our service members who were killed in action. Abergil’s intimate juxtaposition of these stories and photographs of every day possessions of the families, reflects upon the overwhelming loss experienced by family and friends of our fallen comrades; aptly honoring their sacrifice to our Nation. I commend Abergil on her unique presentation and highly recommend this book, not only as a good read–but more importantly–as a stark reminder of those which continue to carry the tragic burdens of loss from America’s generations of war.

I truly hope that Abergil continues her storied-tale of more Gold Star families in future volumes to this work.
