Kevin Cooley: A Thousand Miles An Hour
through March 12th
Reception with the artist Saturday January 16th 6:00-8:00 PM
The photographs in the exhibition further explore the limits of visual awareness. In this series of long exposures images, the sun and the moon remain still while the landscape blurs beneath them – a visual representation of the speed of the earth’s rotation. The framed works hang at specific angles corresponding to the latitude of where the images were made, rendering the horizon line properly while the landscape remains off-kilter. This unusual positioning is a function of the tracking system, yet it allows for these photographs to become a visualization of complex systems of knowledge which ultimately points out the limits of our perception and understanding of the world in which we live.
