KIMBERLY WITHAM: REAP
January 6 to February 17
Opening reception: January 6 from 6-9pm.
Kimberly Witham’s work is strongly influenced by natural history dioramas, collection histories, still life painting and other visual manifestations of man’s attempt to categorize, comprehend, and ultimately control the natural world. REAP presents photographs from two bodies of work, Wunderkammer and On Ripeness and Rot. Using materials culled from her suburban surroundings she references cabinets of curiosity and Dutch still life painting as she embraces the fragility of life and death, the inevitablity of decay, and our desire to preserve and catalog the world around us. Ultimately, her photographs are a reflection of the, often uncomfortable, relationship between humans and nature.
