memymom: Reinventing Appearance
18 September – 6 November 2017
“memymom is a collaboration between two artists, mother and daughter, who work and live in Brussels. Since 2004, Lisa and Marilène work as adults together under the name memymom. Their cooperation actually started with what they call The Umbilical Vein, when Lisa was still very young and Marilène started to encourage her to express herself theatrically. This resulted in an image archive that contains half-staged dreamscape portraits that developed into a mature conversation that deals not only with metamorphosis and personal identity, but also emerging themes of sensual analysis and tragic romanticism. It reveals both the foundations of the close mother-daughter bond and the professional career of these two artists.”
