“ONFINE AMERICA presents 7439 by Renato D’Agostin and Confine by Vittoria Gerardi, the two photographic projects developed from their trip across United States in 2015. Through two very different photographic processes, the works analyse a perception of America as the threshold between the dream and the myth. 7439 are the number of miles D’Agostin rode through from New York to California on his 1983 BMW motorcycle, exploring cities and nature, scale and proportions of one of the most fascinating and controversial countries, challenging himself and the imagery of the traditional coast to coast, reinterpreting one of the classics that made generations dream. In Confine Vittoria Gerardi presents her perception of the landscape, a visual and mental experience through Death Valley. By using an alternative process in the darkroom, the photographer emphasizes the elements that make the landscape violent and extreme. Confine is that mental and physical confrontation with the American landscape in the space of a line. CONFINE AMERICA proposes a dialogue between the two projects, highlighting their profound differences but still connected by the same experience.”
