ANIKÓ ROBITZ: METROPOLIS
25 March to 30 April 2021

“Anikó Robitz belongs to a new generation of Hungarian photo artists, who rely on the rich tradition of the Central European neo-avant-garde tradition in their work. She studied photography at the Szellemkép Photography School until 2006 and later continued her studies at the Zsigmond Király College in Budapest (2008-2011). She is a member of the Photosuprematists group together with Bálint Szombathy and Károly Minyó Szert. The group was established in 2013 on the 100th anniversary of Suprematism. Since then the group had several exhibitions all over Europe. She won Pécsi József Scholarship and Cultural City Network Graz Award in Austria in 2008. She took part in artist in residence programs in Graz (2009), in Tallinn (2011) and in Strasbourg (2014). Although she’s a photographer, her pictures are more appropriately approached as works of fine art. They are best understood by those who are familiar with 20th century visual art forms, primarily abstraction, Suprematism, Constructivism and Minimalism. In her approach, Aniko Robitz focuses on architectural details that have been transformed or abstracted in the creative process. She searches for various textures in modern and contemporary architecture, which either remain clearly visible in her pictures, or disappear completely.”
