Matthew Placek: Balloons, Umbrellas and Snow
September 7, 2022 – October 19, 2022
“Balloons, Umbrellas and Snow, is a solo show of lens-based work by the New York-based artist Matthew Placek. This exhibition draws from a growing archive of photographs taken by Placek over the past 25 years, mostly in and around the East Village and Chinatown. Balloons, Umbrellas and Snow consists of a selection of photographs from his archive installed at Baxter St. The exhibition continues Placek’s ongoing exploration of memory as well his commitment to capturing presence, in particular the places and people in his community and the relationships between them across time. Balloons, Umbrellas and Snow is made possible in part with support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.”
