“One of Slovenia’s most internationally successful photographers, Brejc has developed his own distinctive style over the years, encompassing his extensive knowledge of both the photographic medium and art history. A graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy and Cultural Sociology in Ljubljana, he often uses principles from philosophy and cultural theory in his work. His photographs are therefore conceptually profound and well thought out, which he supports with a high level of technical execution. The selected works in the exhibition represent the latest phase in Brejc’s oeuvre, in which metaphysical motifs, sublimated scenes or the artificial environment of human civilisation come to the fore. They represent a new direction in the artist’s ongoing formal exploration of the photographic medium and its immense expressive and confessional possibilities.”
