Youngho Kang: 99 Variations
January 14th – March 26th, 2022
This exhibition is made possible through a partnership with Artworks Center for Contemporary Art.
Youngho Kang (b.1970) is a South Korean artist whose distinctive work fuses performance and photography. His deep curiosity about identity as a variety of selves existing in one person greets the viewer with images that leave a lasting impact. The works in this series that explore his relationship with others are intimate moments of fused identities. It’s almost impossible to know where one person starts and the other begins.
As we enter the third year of a global pandemic, Kang’s images, some more than a decade old, are prescient to the pandemic imposed need in all of us to understand ourselves and how we fit with our community. Hamidah Glasgow, Executive Director and Curator
