Inge Morath: Where I See Color
May 27 – July 29, 2023

“Inge Morath has become famous with her impressive black and white portrait photographs and reports from large cultural areas. On the occasion of her 100th birthday, the FOTOHOF will show an exhibition of her color works for the first time. Like many of her Magnum colleagues, she has also taken color photos on slide film throughout her life. This primarily for publication in magazines; but she also repeatedly used individual color photos in her black and white illustrated books. She herself has said that she photographs color where she sees color.

For a long time it was very difficult and expensive to produce high-quality exhibition pictures from 35mm slides. Only since the possibility of digitizing slides and printing them out on barite paper has a quality been achieved that is also justified on gallery walls. In addition, Inge Morath’s color works are a valuable contribution to the history of photography, which has received too little attention for various reasons.”
