“In her first solo exhibition, Stephanie Chianda finds in self-portraiture a medium for human re-connection and a communal language in contemporary daily life. This culminates in the series of works presented in this exhibition across photography, digital drawings, and a video installation.

The title of the exhibition, Me, Myself & I, with its early etymology dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, speaks to the physical, the soulful, and the spiritual realities of the artist, brought to fore by the aloneness of the pandemic.

Chianda began working on these images as the coronavirus pandemic was emerging. A medical doctor at day, a visual artist at night. As a keyworker specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology, she was thrust to the frontline of the fight against the virus. And as the pandemic became more intense, the easel for the oil paintings gave way to the phone tablets for the digital drawings.

The exhibition invites the viewers to just not see the artist, but rather see themselves in these images, and ask – would I be in that situation? The pandemic forced us to be introspective, and the viewer is left questioning themselves particularly on the lives they lived during the lockdown, to reflect on the moments of vulnerability and aloneness, and how they have grown from that experience”
