Jacques Henri Lartigue: Divinely sporty
MAY 31 TO JULY 13, 2024
“Lartigue is not a sports photographer, he is a total photographer,” says Marion Perceval, director of the donation which bears the artist’s name. From the Belle Epoque to the 1980s, Jacques Henri Lartigue photographed everything that moved: tennis matches, ball or rowing events, beach games, entertainment on skis, on snow or on water, car races, but also the elegance competitions which were held near the grounds… Because far from effort and sweat, Lartigue loved sport for the beauty of the gesture. And the art of outdoor living.
