Yuken Teruya: TESTIMONY TO A FALL

“In Testimony to a Fall, Teruya reinvents familiar everyday materials, not as symbols of expression, but as “new tools,” functionalities that represent how these tools work. Monopoly money serves to highlight invisible authority and power. The balloons evoke the freedom to take to the sky, the freedom of the individual, and become tools for lifting fragments of bombs from the past. By instrumentalising the symbolism of Monopoly, pastel-colored play money, and the bright red balloon itself, Teruya makes newly visible values and critiques that could not be measured in symbolised history, capitalism, and colonialism.”
