“The Print Center is pleased to introduce the renowned Latin American artist to Philadelphia audiences – this will be her first show in the city she has lived and worked in for twenty years. In her work, Paredes deftly brings together both image-based and performative works, for which she draws from many sources, including formative childhood experiences, Peruvian history from ancient civilizations through Spanish conquest, and an abiding reverence for nature. A move to Costa Rica in the late 1990s affirmed Paredes’ passion for landscape, mythologies, cosmologies, literature and anthropology that continue to this day. These themes are woven throughout the exhibition, which will be presented in all three of The Print Center’s galleries. Published Gallery Notes will complement the exhibition, featuring essays by the exhibition’s curator Lauren Rosenblum and art historian Joanna García Cherán.”
