Jordan Putt: In Search of Giants
January 10th – February 22nd
Opening Reception: January 10th | 6 – 9 PM
“The work in this exhibition follows the artist’s three-year search for the allusive crested saguaro in Southern Arizona. The crested saguaro is an extremely rare mutation which creates a fan shape at the top of the saguaro cactus instead of it’s usual, classic cylinder shape. It is estimated that one in every 200,000 saguaros is crested. This work weaves a web of unexpected lessons and encounters that guide the artist’s understanding of the desert and the politics that are shaped by its topography. In a region which boomed with the gold rush and has since become known for the mining and extraction of rare metals, this project addresses the lore of wandering in the desert through the artist’s own story of walking the dry hills that raised him.”
