MANTH: a photographic residency

MANTH is an artistic residency. A studio and lab for experimental photography.

The residency is designed for photographers who seek full immersion in rural settings and feel the need to explore themselves within a natural environment. The name MANTH evokes the ancient Etruscan god of the underworld, guardian of the subterranean world and the earth’s primordial forces. This place, near Bracciano’s Lake (Lazio region, Italy), has long been enveloped in an aura of mystery and transformation—elements that are deeply reflected in the artistic research that the residency aims to foster.

The objective of Manth is to awaken primal instincts through the pursuit of images, stories, and deeply personal impressions; to cultivate an intimate bond with a nature increasingly forgotten; to explore one’s creative self and narrate personal experiences through a slower, more contemplative rhythm.Less than an hour from Rome, immersed in the natural reserve of Bracciano’s Lake, the residency will take place in an old farmhouse surrounded by forest and silence, sharing everyday experiences. Following the cycles of the land, engaging in agriculture and harvesting while collaborating with local farmers and residents. Participants will be encouraged to fully attune themselves to their surroundings, forging a profound connection with the land and local communities.

The journey will be guided by mentors Maurizio Cogliandro and Guido Gazzilli, who will support participants throughout the entire creative and project development process. During the residency, there will be encounters with local communities as well as moments of dialogue and constructive critique with leading figures in photography and publishing. The participants will have access to educational workshops across the region, including darkrooms, artist studios, and galleries. To further stimulate creativity, participants will have the opportunity to explore the lake by boat, take part in nature tours in direct contact with the local flora and fauna, and engage in independent activities tailored to their creative needs.

The aim of this unique experience is to rediscover the beauty of nature and deepen the connection with it, expressing it through your photography.
