Nejma Kachaou & Valentin Fedorov

In the harmony of aquatic expanses and within this ceaseless current of life, mirages and reality intertwine, warmth and silence merge. In this series, the images seek to happen - showing, here, waves as if painted or electric, there, a mineral, monolithic and immutable world, highlighted by the frontality of the shooting and the pronounced work of contrasts. But a thread akin to an unseen guide, firmly binds shores, serving as a bridge spanning space and time. Its tender allure carries us through the veils of history and into the flow of possibilities, revealing the pulsations of the past and the paths to the future.

After getting her degree from the University of Arts of Bordeaux in 2004, Nejma Kachaou (1980) started developing a photographic work alongside her practice as a secondary school arts teacher. Her work mainly focuses on building and composing a picture. It encompasses lines, rhythms, materials as well as landmarks referring to landscaping, sculpture and architecture. So many domains that her photography touches on with the gaze of a poet. Her series of pictures are the expression of a mysterious language which rarely portrays human figures. This is the path that Nejma Kachaou has chosen to explore the question of time and the limits of pictures.

Valentin was born in 1998 in Moscow. He works with the medium of photography and interest in analog printing techniques and photobooks, and explores themes of memory, temporality and mortality. Since 2022, he has been living in Bishkek.
