Angela Tozzi & Kayee C

Photographers Angela Tozzi and Kayee C started a three-month long exchange in which one of them sent a photograph and the other responded to it in her own style. Starting from a reflection on the personalisation of spaces in the capitalist system - represented by a mysterious moment in an impersonal business hotel room juxtaposed to a public wall on which thousands of passers left their mark - a visual conversation began, moving on to touch on several contemporary hot topics. A discussion about the by-products of capitalism on both people and cultures leaves space to observations on the paradoxical relationship humans have with the natural world, followed by an analysis of the dynamics that connect the self and “the other”, which lead to the conclusion that we are, after all, social animals, craving for fellowship to support personal and collective progress.

Currently living in France, Kayee is a self-taught photographer born and raised in Hong Kong. She creates works by assembling her self-portraits to talk about human relationships. Her favourite subject is the paradox between our desire for a fusional bond and our need to remain unique individuals. She attempts to offer a critical, offbeat and sometimes poetic look on the way we relate to each other.

Angela is a London based photographer with a background in photojournalism. Her documentary works mainly explore the topic of ‘change’ as a natural consequence of the passing of time and constant transformation of things, beings and environments, with a focus on the human and non-human ability of adapting to circumstances and evolving along.
