Natasha Lozinskaya — Treasure Trove
Vyatsky Krai is one of the regions of the middle strip of Russia. Geographically, economically and historically it is somewhere «between»: does not belong to a specific territory (located between the Russian North, the Ural Mountains and the south), unites different nationalities, historically at all times it was considered an intermediate point. The folklore and mythology of local places are connected with the same finding of Vyatka in interdimensional and extra-temporal context.
As I travel through the history and territory of my small homeland, I create a visual guide to the wonderland that I have lost and want to recreate. Through photography I awaken new and old myths and legends of Vyatsky Krai, offering to look at one of the Russian regions through a mystical lens.
My search for a Vyatka identity is my search for my own identity and an eternal return to myself. Through metaphysical and gaming I try to find my own place in Russian culture and history, to explore belonging to the collective past and present, to cross the boundaries between real and imagined, which in difficult historical times seem very fragile.
