Bahar Yurukoglu is not only a photographer but also an animal lover, amateur historian, and enjoys traveling by foot. She graduated from the School of Visual Art and is based in Brooklyn, NY.

My work focuses on the intimate narrative that unfolds in the preserved house museums of historical and cultural icons. Dead objects take on new roles as priceless relics that memorialize and sanctify. Using documents, fragile memories, and a contemporary perspective, historians and curators recreate and re-imagine the personal lives and private spaces of history's most prominent people. The personal relics and collected memorabilia anthropomorphize to create a haunting, transcendent and beautiful portrait. Photographing these houses is an exploration of a temporal space between past and present, fiction and reality. My photography looks at the role of myth, absence, nostalgia, and memory as it relates to the retelling of history and the human experience.
